Bishop George Hay was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1534. He was educated at the University of St. Andrews, and was ordained a priest in 1559. He served as a chaplain to Mary, Queen of Scots, and was subsequently appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Carlisle. In 1572, he was consecrated Bishop of the Diocese of Aberdeen. Hay was a strong supporter of the Protestant Reformation, and was an outspoken critic of the Catholic Church. He wrote several books on religious subjects, and was a leading figure in the Presbyterian Church. Hay died in 1603.
